Also worth visiting, the Musée des Arts Decoratifs sees beauty in utility from Lalique to Le Corbusier. Madame de Sévigné defined good taste in the 17th century, and her Marais home, the Musée Carnavalet, has exquisite interiors and historic paintings. Stroll the gardens of the Parc de la Villette for cultural forays to the Cité de la Musique and Cité des Sciences.
The vineyard on the slopes of Montmartre is a vestige of the times when Paris was a collection of little villages. Today the Clos Montmartre vines still produce hundreds of bottles a year for charity. The harvest is celebrated during a boozy festival in October.
